Instructor Recruitment
As a school, it is crucial to determine whether you have enough instructors available to accommodate the planned number of students. If there is a shortage of instructors or if the process of standardization and upgrading required to bring additional instructors online is too demanding for your training staff, it may be necessary to reduce the number of planned students or delay course start dates.
Planning Tip: Without creating a plan for instructor recruitment and upgrades, you cannot provide feedback to the sales team regarding whether the projected student numbers are too high or too low. This means you will stay in fire-fighting mode.
Developing a comprehensive recruitment plan allows you to:
- Assess whether your internal hires from instructor courses will be sufficient to address the instructor shortfall.
- Creates a visible recruitment plan for the person or team responsible for external instructor hiring. This enables them to manage their workload effectively and provide timely feedback to the training team. If the designated timeframe for hiring is unrealistic, it allows for adjustments such as delaying current students or reducing the number of new starts - in advanced.
- Reduces the risk of buying expensive aircraft without having sufficient instructors to operate them
- Builds trust with your customers by taking into account the bigger picture when deciding how many students to start and estimating possible delays. This means you won't have to keep going back to them with constantly changing end dates, providing a more reliable and consistent experience.
To avoid using specific instructor names, you can refer to them as "Internal Recruit" or "External Recruit." Alternatively, you can assign them names based on the intake period, such as "August Instructor Course 1." This naming convention makes it clear that, if everything goes as planned, you intend to hire an instructor from the August Instructor course.
To enter an Instructor as Recruitment is exactly the same as entering an existing Instructor, with the only difference being their start date, which will be in the future. To view them on the Instructor page you need to select 'Recruitment'
How do you know when you need more?
The Instructor graph when filtered to ''All instructor types'', is indicating you are short in any month that has red.
To see the exact number and the exact type you are short you can refer to the table below the graph. Most tables in Aeroplanned have the ability for you to drill down. Click on ''Difference'' to see what type of instructor you are short. Any number in the table that is red is a shortfall. In the example below this school should hire 2 Instructors for March 2023, another 1 in August and another 2 in September.
